DH in Korea

DH2026 is hosted by the Korean Association for Digital Humanities (KADH). Established in 2015 as a consortium, KADH serves as a shared platform for individuals and groups currently engaged in, or interested in digital humanities research and education. Our purpose is to enhance the digital humanities landscape in Korea by sharing experiences and expertise.

Key Timeline of DH in Korea

  • 1990s | Large-scale documentary heritage digitization projects are carried out with government support
  • 2000s | The results of digitization projects are made available to the public for free by the government
  • 2010s | The cultural contents industry sees a boom as a way to introduce the humanities to the public through digital media
  • 2015 | KADH is founded
  • 2017 | KADH hosts its first international conference
  • 2020s | Many DH centers and academic programs are newly founded through renewed national interest in DH education and research
  • 2024 | KADH joins ADHO as a Constituent Organization
  • 2024 | KADH joins the DH Asia Initiative
  • 2026 | KADH hosts DH2026 in Daejeon
