About
The Korean Association for Digital Humanities (KADH) proposes the theme “Engagement” for the 2026 Alliance of Digital Humanities Organization (ADHO) conference in Korea. This theme underscores our dedication to promoting diversity and inclusivity within digital research while addressing vital societal concerns such as digital equity and the ethical application of Artificial Intelligence. Moreover, it enables us to reinterpret and recontextualize the three focal fields of this conference—cultural studies, critical data studies, and heritage studies—within the framework of digital humanities.
Location
Machine translation using AI is becoming more sophisticated than ever before. Machine translation not only accelerates translation and cultural exchange between languages without passing through English but also expands the contact zone of interaction between humans and machines. We are aware that research on cultural translation has evolved from emphasizing the originality of the translated text to the context of the translation, and from the hegemony of major languages such as English to the diversity of minority languages. In that case, how will machine translation using AI redefine the implications of this “translingual practice”?

" Call for Papers "
Program
Digital humanities have primarily explored the patterns of change in humanities using big data. However, must this data necessarily be “big”? Should the results of such analysis always reveal patterns? How should we address algorithmic bias and discrimination inherent in data collection and analysis? If we acknowledge that data itself constitutes historical and social artifacts, we may become more consciously aware of the process of producing research. How can we generate high-quality data on a smaller scale, and how can we utilize such data to conduct research that is more open to interpretation?

UNESCO’s Memory of the World register aims to not only preserve but furthermore advance the interest in and understanding of precious archival documents of historical and cultural value to humanity. These documents are not mere artifacts locked away in a secluded archive but are source materials which continue to serve as primary texts for humanities research today. Through this sub- theme, we aim to create a space for enhancing the value of these Memories of the World through the introduction of the Memories of the World from various countries and through the development of new, digital humanities methodology-based research directions for these precious heritages.
